Cher News Round-Up: 'Woman's World' Billboard Action; National Enquirer Digs Cher's Style; And More!

A few nuggets of news about The Goddess of Pop...

Cher's new single 'Woman's World' sadly fell off Billboard's 'Bubbling Under' chart this past week, but not all is bad. The single has risen up the same publication's Hot Dance Club Songs from last week's number 43 position to a new high of number 26. It could very well follow the fate of Cher's 2010 'You Haven't Seen The Last of Me' by reaching number one on the chart.

Judging from a recent Cher tweet, she is as clueless as us when it comes to the International release date of her new single 'Woman's World', which has so far only been released in North America. Cher, who appeared on WCBS-FM 101.1 this morning, wrote, "I thought it was going to be released worldwide at the same time?! It would have been more fun for me if released that way!"

Cher spilled a handful of fresh lyrics into a tweet during her recent Twitter session; the couple of lines from a track on her upcoming album 'Closer To The Truth' (for which she's shooting the cover for on the 22nd of this month) are, "Imagine a life without death or disease, the kind of power to bring a rich man to his knees."

It's hard to tell if the folk from 'The National Enquirer' love or loathe Cher: they include the legendary songstress in their magazine almost every week... So they love her, right? But it's usually trash stories about her or her family... So maybe they loathe her? Well, whatever the case, they're loving her this past week - well, her outfit anyyway. They rated her amonsgt the best-dressed celebrities of the week, with a score of 8 out of 10, for the rock-chick outfit that she sported in the 'The Voice' press room (photo, left).

  2. Yeah i wondered when the int. release would be, but as it yet has not happend i think after the not so succesful Womas World there will be an entire new single for the rest of the world!

So she can start fresh with a new dance track around the world and this new song will also be the second US-Single. The first just downloadable and for clubs/dance radio stations and the secons one (international first) also on physical maxi CD and maybe more mainstream radio compatible. The video shoot in Jan would therefore only have been for a promotional purpose for the album and the single WW that will only be a little sneak peek after all...

  3. Well, that strategy would probably have worked in the 80's, but not now.

  4. Just entering the Billboard Bubblind Under Chart was amazing! Cher first hit the Billboard Territorial Hits Chart with Sonny in Dec 1964 then hit the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo act in July 1965 with All I Really Want to Do. Cher is 67 and for a 67 yr old to even Bubble Under the Hot 100 in unheard of. Cher has been on the Hot 100 or Bubbling under charts in 6 decades now: 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and now the 2010s. Had Cher featured someone young and hot like Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Lil'Wayne, Pitbull and on and on she could have charted higher but Cher always tends to do things the hard way

  5. Things can still turn around for WW!! didnt something similar happen with BELIEVE??
Cher was going to feature/duet with lady gaga, look where that got her!

  6. The whole Lady Gaga thing borders on the absurd. For the first time in Cher's 50 year career she linked up with a hot much MUCH younger artist. Gaga gave her The Greatest Thing and Cher loved it. Gaga recorded her part on The Greatest Thing along with Cher's in July 2011 with RedOne producing. Cher loved it and RedOne loved it. In the spring of 2013, we learned Gaga did not like it so The Greatest Thing was not getting released. Nearly all artists now feature other artists. That is how songs get airplay in the US. The story of The Greatest Thing is quite sad. We know Cher does like the song very much but I guess it will not come out since Gaga does not like it.

  7. its possible!!-?? that in TODAY'S world of music, an artist SUCH as CHER can use a boost by featuring "an on demand" new artist that is hot for the moment, lack for better words! i see them all as ONE HIT WONDER! personally i rather see her collaborate with other MORE talented artist, that have more to offer. some1 that will compliment her,, its got to be a good match! and seeing what's out there,, not so easy! these new so called divas, think they are already fully graduated DIVAS.
WW is getting radio play and that is a good sign.. As for The Greatest Thing, i blame RedOne,, it was his idea for Gaga to jump in the track and make it in2 a duet,,, and now he is MIA,, right now gaga is on my sh*t list,, I just don't get it,, i think there is MORE TO IT then not liking her vocals,, its got to be easy to jump in2 a studio and redo,, how hard can it be!! this would have been a good move for gaga and a hit for both possibly, something we will never know!
BUT LOVE that Pink wrote 2 songs, Jake is also involved,, cant wait to hear new CHER music, esp the country song
not that i am a country boy/man, i am european, but dig
country music! esp how she sounds when she has touched on it!

    1. It's RedOne's fault because gaga didn't like the song and he didnt want to produce it again because he probably doesn't care. I think that something has happened between him and Gaga because he also won't make the final cut for Gaga's 4th album ARTPOP. Believe me though the song's production would have been comercial and recycled. ReDone recycles the same beats over and over again, it's like only when he collaborates with Gaga he makes different sounds. Look at all his latest productions

    2. I'm also dissapointed though because it would have been a legendary collaboration and with Gaga's help Cher could have reached even the top of BB hot 100.

  8. I too agree there is more to the story. I also think the music charts at least in the USA are absurd. Artists decades younger than Cher struggle for airplay. Christina Aguilera has airplay issue so she teams with Pitbull to get ALL radio formats to play her song. Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Justin Beiber and nearly all acts feature someone. If WW featured Nicki Minaj or Lil'Wayne or Pitbull or Wil.i.am or Jay-Z or Kanye West or anyone hot, WW would get airplay on mainstream US radio. I think it is stupid but I do not make the rules. I too love Pink and am very happy Cher is singing Pink's songs. I too agree that RedOne likely mixed it so Gaga is unhappy and I bet RedOne does not want to edit it. At least Cher says SHE likes The Greatest Thing. Sadly The Greatest Thing would have had airplay since it would have been a landmark type of song.

  9. something that really bothers/hunts me, is that NOT ONE magazine publication has PAID/DONE this iconic woman some kind of tribute. There is plenty to write

  10. I think Cher's management wants the magazine and full press blitz for SEPT to coincide with the new album. The fall will be Cher wall to wall I bet!

Billboard magazine should have put an articl in their Chart Watch column to say Woman's World Bubbled Under, 48 years after Cher entered the Hot 100 with All I Really Want to Do in July 1965 or 48 years and 7 months after Sonny & Cher entered the Billboard Territorial Hits Chart in July 1964. THAT is a big deal and Billboard failed to mention it. If they had, other publicatons would have picked up on it.

  11. u r right,,Sept will all about CHER.. i was very surprise BB didnt pick on this also,, very disappointing,,

  12. Whoops, I meant DEC 1964 when Sonny & Cher entered the Billboard Territorial Hits chart with Baby Don't Go. July 2013 marks 48 years and 7 months since they first appeared on the Billboard Charts. Billboard reports nearly every tiny accomplishment artists make yet this longevity went unnoticed. NO other female artist has done this. 48+ years on the Billboard Charts is unheard of!

  13. we should all write to BB, its disrespectful

  14. Here in Sweden, NO news about Cher's upcoming album nor Women's World. Only story about Cher and Tom Cruise relationship in the 80's... News and media is made by very young clueless people. If possible, I think the world is getting more and more stupid every year...

    ReplyDelete
  15. It was similar here in the USA. Cher fans know of her hard work to promote Woman's World in the USA but our media really pushed the insipid Tom Cruise story. Media sucks world-wide. When Cher's album drops on Sept 24 she will be everywhere! When her album drops in Europe she will go there and hopefully news will cover more of Cher's music and career and less of the foolish fluff.

  16. It's cool that she did a song with Jake Shears from Scissor Sisters - they're a really fantastic band. Very NYC early 80's. But I wish she'd do something with another legend like Stevie Nicks or Bette Midler.

    1. love them,, i had the pleasure to see them play in small venues here in NYC b4 they were anywhere never famous! jake has an amazing voice,,
stevie nicks, would be amazing or pat benatar, lita ford,, how is her relationship these days with Bette??

  17. Oh, and IMO, "The Greatest Thing" demo was amazing and it's a great song. Why can't Cher just take off Gaga's vocals and put them down herself? Who cares if Gaga voice is on the album or not? She's not very popular anymore.

    1. gaga may not want it out at all, she probably has the rights to it,,

    2. Gaga announced her new album and every site is having her as the top article for over a week now. She made headlines even when she was on a media blackout. Gaga's star power is huge, it was a very good chance for Cher to hit top 10. She even had many possibilities for the no.1 spot...

  18. Jared, I agree with you. I hope WBR does that. It is still absurd that after 2 years Gaga decides she does not like it. Oh well, what can you do? Cher likes the song so I think your idea is sensible. We will see. They could put it on a delux issue of the album and people would love that. The Greatest Thing sounds like a beautiful song and needs to be heard. Gaga is a talented writer and Cher is a super talented singer so Cher's solo version will be a nice treat for us.

    1. Lisa,, something has gone down with them,, CHER all along was planning on doing it on her own until big mouth RedOne suggested gaga to jump in n make it in2 a duet,, something is VERY fishy here!!

  19. I still say Cher and Stevie need to duet together. We know they're old friends and they've both said over the years how much they admire each other - PLUS, they're on the same label, have the same publicist (Liz Rosenberg) and the same wardrobe mistress.

When asked in 2012 who she'd most like to work with, Stevie said Elton John, Gotye, and yes, CHER.

  20. I love Stevie but don't forget, their duet could never get radio play in the USA. Cher & Stevie would sound fantastic together but then again nearly anyone would sound great with Cher. Radio in the USA sucks. The only way radio would play Cher is if she featured whoever is hot like Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Lil'Wayne, Rianna, Wil.i.am, Pitbull and the rest of the usuals. Some songs on the Billboard Hot 100 feature 2 or 2 or 4 or 5 people now. It is sickening.

  21. The interview where Stevie talked about Cher I couldn't find. She talked about it when she was on the red carpet with Elton and David back in October. It's hard to pinpoint the interview since Stevie has done hundreds since then.

I know the song probably wouldn't get any airplay, but they've been friends since the 70's (Stevie told a funny story a few years ago during a Q&A of Cher and Rod Stewart and herself at a party at Rod's house) but it would be great to hear them both belt out a big dance song. Remember, in 2002 Stevie had a No. 1 hit with her "Planets of the Universe" remix.

  22. It would be fun to have A Night of 100 Stevie's and A Night of 100 Cher's.

I would love Cher to do a duets album and record with people like Stevie and Pink and Cindi Lauper and Mick Jagger and Adele and Alicia Keyes and Sting and so many more
